There are so many mixed messages out there in the world of health and nutrition that leave many a consumer confused. Yes, you’ve heard me rant about this before! My mission is to deliver sound, relevant and up to date nutritional information that empowers you to make healthy choices if that is your want.

I believe as a consumer, when a highly regarded health organisation promotes a message to the public it should be based on sound, correct and relevant nutritional/scientific based facts. In many cases (because of the reputation of this organisation)  Jo and Jane Public, will rely on their message as a guide or even directive when purchasing foods, in the belief they’re making a nutritionally sound and healthy choice.

What am I ranting about? The Australian Heart Foundation Tick of Approval Program.

2014 marks the 25th anniversary of the Heart Foundation Tick  program – a pioneering public health initiative undertaken to help consumers make healthier food choices and to drive critically important changes to the food supply.” (lifted from the website www.heeaertfoundation.org.au)

2014 is also the year where the Heart Foundation needs to take a long serious look at the misguided messages they are putting in the public arena – Milo Cereal 27gm/100gm of sugar..healthy? – and while they’re at it, take another long hard look at recent positive changes amongst other Heart Foundations worldwide.

Celebrity Chef and Health Crusader Pete Evans, along with a young Queensland mum Jessie Reimers (also supported by many health professionals) have been leading the charge and fronting the media this week.

Read Pete’s Facebook article blow and I would love YOU to sign the petition

Thank you to everyone who has taken a minute of their time to jump online and put their name down for the petition to “FLICK THE TICK”. Jessie Reimers is a brave individual who decided to stand up for what is right and start this campaign. With your help she now has over 45000 people signed up and she needs more. Jessie is delivering this petition herself to the Heart Foundation this Tuesday. Will the Heart Foundation have the good sense and vision to realise that they have a golden opportunity to move forward and use this petition from the public as a get out of jail free card. With the other heart foundations around the world acknowledging that there is a correlation between sugar and heart disease, I believe that if they don’t change their stance asap, then it is only a matter of time before there may be a class action against them. The Heart Foundation needs to regain the respect of the public and I am positive the organisation does amazing work, unfortunately, these TICKS which have been bought by anyone with a chequebook big enough, have made the public lose a lot of respect for the foundation which is evident by the amount of signatures on this petition and no doubt from peoples comments on their survey which you have shared on here. This is an opportunity for The Heart Foundation to wipe the slate clean, get rid of the tick and get on with the business of delivering up to date scientific advice to the public to prevent heart disease and not let corporate greed muddy their vision. We invite you to jump online here and add your name and give Jessie the support, as she is a brave young individual who has worked tirelessly to go up against a goliath for the sake of our future generations, and I would like to see all that hard work actually make a difference..which I think it has already!http://www.change.org/p/heart-foundation-stop-giving-advice-and-promoting-food-that-causes-heart-disease

Yes I am ticked off … are you?

Have a fabulous week!
